Surah Al-Jinn — Ayah 3 (English) — Video

Al-Jinn • Ayah 3 of 28 • English

وَأَنَّهُ تَعَالَىٰ جَدُّ رَبِّنَا مَا اتَّخَذَ صَاحِبَةً وَلَا وَلَدًا 3
Translation:
And [it teaches] that exalted is the nobleness of our Lord; He has not taken a wife or a son Al-Jinn 72:3
Tafsir:

وَأَنَّهُ تَعَالَىٰ جَدُّ رَ‌بِّنَا (and [ then the Jinns started talking to each other ] that exalted is the Glory of our Lord;....Al-Jinn 72:3 ). The word jadd means 'majesty/glory' used for Allah. Instead of saying .jadduhu' with a third person pronoun referring to Allah, the attributive name 'rabb' 'Lord' is expressly retained which indicates the exalted position of Allah. The Being who is the Cherisher and sustainer of His creation must, of necessity, occupy the lofty position. Commentators have discussed the grammatical conjunctive construction 'wa annahu' at length in this verse Al-Jinn 72:3 . It might be of no interest to the general readers.
