بَلْ كَذَّبُوا بِمَا لَمْ يُحِيطُوا بِعِلْمِهِ وَلَمَّا يَأْتِهِمْ تَأْوِيلُهُ ۚ كَذَٰلِكَ كَذَّبَ الَّذِينَ مِنْ قَبْلِهِمْ ۖ فَانْظُرْ كَيْفَ كَانَ عَاقِبَةُ الظَّالِمِينَ
Bal kaththaboo bima lam yuheetoo biAAilmihi walamma yatihim taweeluhu kathalika kaththaba allatheena min qablihim faonthur kayfa kana AAaqibatu alththalimeena (39)
( بل كذبوا بما لم يحيطوا بعلمه ) يعني : القرآن ، كذبوا به ولم يحيطوا بعلمه ، ( ولما يأتهم تأويله ) أي : عاقبة ما وعد الله في القرآن ، أنه يئول إليه أمرهم من العقوبة ، يريد : أنهم لم يعلموا ما يئول إليه عاقبة أمرهم . ( كذلك كذب الذين من قبلهم ) أي : كما كذب هؤلاء الكفار بالقرآن كذلك كذب الذين من قبلهم من كفار الأمم الخالية ، ( فانظر كيف كان عاقبة الظالمين ) آخر أمر المشركين بالهلاك .
Yet the disbelievers do not respond to these challenges, but reject the Qur’ān before even thinking about it, without understanding it, and the punishment about which they have been warned has not yet come to them, although it is near!. In the same way, past communities rejected the truth, and Allah sent His punishment upon them. So reflect upon the end of these communities who rejected the truth, because they were destroyed by Allah.
