وَمِنْهُمْ مَنْ يَسْتَمِعُونَ إِلَيْكَ ۚ أَفَأَنْتَ تُسْمِعُ الصُّمَّ وَلَوْ كَانُوا لَا يَعْقِلُونَ
Waminhum man yastamiAAoona ilayka afaanta tusmiAAu alssumma walaw kanoo la yaAAqiloona (42)
فقال : ( ومنهم من يستمعون إليك ) بأسماعهم الظاهرة فلا ينفعهم ، ( أفأنت تسمع الصم ) يريد : سمع القلب ، ( ولو كانوا لا يعقلون ) .
And some of the idolaters listen to you O Messenger as you recite the Qur’ān not wanting to accept it and follow it. Are you able to make deaf people hear? Likewise you cannot guide those who are deaf to the truth, as they will not understand it.
