وَيَا قَوْمِ اسْتَغْفِرُوا رَبَّكُمْ ثُمَّ تُوبُوا إِلَيْهِ يُرْسِلِ السَّمَاءَ عَلَيْكُمْ مِدْرَارًا وَيَزِدْكُمْ قُوَّةً إِلَىٰ قُوَّتِكُمْ وَلَا تَتَوَلَّوْا مُجْرِمِينَ
Waya qawmi istaghfiroo rabbakum thumma tooboo ilayhi yursili alssamaa AAalaykum midraran wayazidkum quwwatan ila quwwatikum wala tatawallaw mujrimeena (52)
( ويا قوم استغفروا ربكم ) أي : آمنوا به ، والاستغفار هاهنا بمعنى الإيمان ، ( ثم توبوا إليه ) من عبادة غيره ومن سالف ذنوبكم ، ( يرسل السماء عليكم مدرارا ) أي : يرسل المطر عليكم متتابعا ، مرة بعد أخرى في أوقات الحاجة ، ( ويزدكم قوة إلى قوتكم ) أي : شدة مع شدتكم . وذلك أن الله عز وجل حبس عنهم القطر ثلاث سنين ، وأعقم أرحام نسائهم فلم يلدن ، فقال لهم هود عليه السلام : إن آمنتم أرسل الله عليكم المطر ، فتزدادون مالا ويعيد أرحام الأمهات إلى ما كانت ، فيلدن فتزدادون قوة بالأموال والأولاد . وقيل : تزدادون قوة في الدين إلى قوة البدن . ( ولا تتولوا مجرمين ) أي : لا تدبروا مشركين .
Hūd told his people to ask for forgiveness from Allah, and to repent to Him, away from their sins, the biggest of which was associating others with Him. He would reward them by sending abundant rain, and would add strength to their strength by increasing their descendants and wealth. He told them not to turn away from what he was calling them to, because they would then be wrongdoers due to their disbelief in Allah and rejection of what he brought to them.
