وَيَسْتَعْجِلُونَكَ بِالسَّيِّئَةِ قَبْلَ الْحَسَنَةِ وَقَدْ خَلَتْ مِنْ قَبْلِهِمُ الْمَثُلَاتُ ۗ وَإِنَّ رَبَّكَ لَذُو مَغْفِرَةٍ لِلنَّاسِ عَلَىٰ ظُلْمِهِمْ ۖ وَإِنَّ رَبَّكَ لَشَدِيدُ الْعِقَابِ
WayastaAAjiloonaka bialssayyiati qabla alhasanati waqad khalat min qablihimu almathulatu wainna rabbaka lathoo maghfiratin lilnnasi AAala thulmihim wainna rabbaka lashadeedu alAAiqabi (6)
قوله عز وجل : ( ويستعجلونك بالسيئة قبل الحسنة ) الاستعجال : طلب تعجيل الأمر قبل مجيء وقته ، والسيئة ها هنا هي : العقوبة ، والحسنة : العافية . وذلك أن مشركي مكة كانوا يطلبون العقوبة بدلا من العافية استهزاء منهم يقولون : " اللهم إن كان هذا هو الحق من عندك فأمطر علينا حجارة من السماء أو ائتنا بعذاب أليم " ( الأنفال - 32 ) .
( وقد خلت من قبلهم المثلات ) أي : مضت من قبلهم في الأمم التي عصت ربها وكذبت رسلها العقوبات . والمثلات جمع المثلة بفتح الميم وضم الثاء ، مثل : صدقة وصدقات .
( وإن ربك لذو مغفرة للناس على ظلمهم وإن ربك لشديد العقاب ) .
The idolaters ask you, O Messenger, to bring on the punishment and they enquire as to why it is taking so long to come on them before they completely enjoy the favours that Allah has decreed for them. Many such punishments have come before on people like them from the nations who disbelieved. Why do they not take a lesson from them? Your Lord, O Messenger, is one who pardons people despite their wrongdoing. He, therefore, does not rush to take retribution from them giving them a chance to repent to Allah. He is truly severe in punishing those who persist in their denial if they do not repent.
