قُلْ لَوْ كَانَ مَعَهُ آلِهَةٌ كَمَا يَقُولُونَ إِذًا لَابْتَغَوْا إِلَىٰ ذِي الْعَرْشِ سَبِيلًا
Qul law kana maAAahu alihatun kama yaqooloona ithan laibtaghaw ila thee alAAarshi sabeelan (42)
( قل ( يا محمد لهؤلاء المشركين ( لو كان معه آلهة كما يقولون ( قرأ حفص وابن كثير " يقولون " بالياء وقرأ الآخرون بالتاء ( إذا لابتغوا ( لطلبوا يعني الآلهة ( إلى ذي العرش سبيلا ( بالمبالغة والقهر ليزيلوا ملكه كفعل ملوك الدنيا بعضهم ببعض .
وقيل : معناه لطلبوا إلى ذي العرش سبيلا بالتقرب إليه .
قال قتادة : لعرفوا الله وفضله وابتغوا ما يقربهم إليه .
والأول أصح .
Say - O Messenger, to these idolaters: If there were other deities along with Allah as they say as a fabrication and lie, then those supposed deities would have sought a way to Allah, the Owner of the Throne, to try to defeat and combat with Him over His dominion.
