إِذْ قَالَ لِأَبِيهِ يَا أَبَتِ لِمَ تَعْبُدُ مَا لَا يَسْمَعُ وَلَا يُبْصِرُ وَلَا يُغْنِي عَنْكَ شَيْئًا
Ith qala liabeehi ya abati lima taAAbudu ma la yasmaAAu wala yubsiru wala yughnee AAanka shayan (42)
( إذ قال ) إبراهيم ( لأبيه ) آزر وهو يعبد الأصنام ( يا أبت لم تعبد ما لا يسمع ) صوتا ( ولا يبصر ) شيئا ( ولا يغني عنك ) أي لا يكفيك ( شيئا )
When he said to his father Azar: “O father, why do you worship besides Allah an idol which does not hear your supplication if you supplicate it, does not see your worship when you worship it, does not remove harm from you and does not bring any benefit to you?
