وَقَالَ الَّذِينَ لَا يَعْلَمُونَ لَوْلَا يُكَلِّمُنَا اللَّهُ أَوْ تَأْتِينَا آيَةٌ ۗ كَذَٰلِكَ قَالَ الَّذِينَ مِنْ قَبْلِهِمْ مِثْلَ قَوْلِهِمْ ۘ تَشَابَهَتْ قُلُوبُهُمْ ۗ قَدْ بَيَّنَّا الْآيَاتِ لِقَوْمٍ يُوقِنُونَ
Waqala allatheena la yaAAlamoona lawla yukallimuna Allahu aw tateena ayatun kathalika qala allatheena min qablihim mithla qawlihim tashabahat quloobuhum qad bayyanna alayati liqawmin yooqinoona (118)
قوله تعالى: {وقال الذين لا يعلمون} قال ابن عباس رضي الله عنهما: "اليهود"، وقال مجاهد: "النصارى"، وقال قتادة: "مشركو العرب".
{لولا} هلا. وكل ما في القرآن (لولا) فهو بمعنى هلا، إلا واحداً، وهو قوله: {فلولا أنه كان من المسبحين} [143-الصافات] معناه فلو لم يكن
{يكلمنا الله} عياناً بأنك رسوله.
{أو تأتينا آية} دلالة وعلامة على صدقك في ادعائك النبوة.
قال الله تعالى: {كذلك قال الذين من قبلهم} أي كفار الأمم الخالية.
{مثل قولهم تشابهت قلوبهم} أي أشبه بعضها بعضاً في الكفر والقسوة وطلب المحال.
{قد بينا الآيات لقوم يوقنون}.
Those without knowledge from among the People of the Scripture and the idolaters asked, in their stubbornness against the truth, why Allah did not speak to them directly, or why a miracle was not sent for them to see. Disbelieving communities said similar things to their prophets in the past: their hearts are all similar, because all disbelievers are the same, even if they are from different times and places. Allah makes His signs clear to those who are certain of the truth when it appears to them, not doubting or resisting it.
