فَمَا زَالَتْ تِلْكَ دَعْوَاهُمْ حَتَّىٰ جَعَلْنَاهُمْ حَصِيدًا خَامِدِينَ

Fama zalat tilka daAAwahum hatta jaAAalnahum haseedan khamideena ⁽¹⁵⁾

Tafsir

( فما زالت تلك دعواهم ) أي : تلك الكلمة وهي قولهم يا ويلنا ، دعاؤهم يدعون بها ويرددونها .

( حتى جعلناهم حصيدا ) بالسيوف كما يحصد الزرع ، ( خامدين ) ميتين .

So they continued confessing to their sins and praying for their own destruction until I made them like harvested crops, dead without any movement.
