قَالُوا فَأْتُوا بِهِ عَلَىٰ أَعْيُنِ النَّاسِ لَعَلَّهُمْ يَشْهَدُونَ
Qaloo fatoo bihi AAala aAAyuni alnnasi laAAallahum yashhadoona (61)
( قالوا فأتوا به على أعين الناس ) قال نمرود : يقول جيئوا به ظاهرا بمرأى من الناس ، ( لعلهم يشهدون ) عليه أنه الذي فعله ، كرهوا أن يأخذوه بغير بينة ، قال الحسن وقتادة والسدي ، وقال محمد بن إسحاق ( لعلهم يشهدون ) أي يحضرون عقابه وما يصنع به
Their chiefs said, “Bring Abraham in front of the people so that they may testify to his confession to what he did, and their confession will be your evidence against him.”
