وَإِذَا قِيلَ لَهُمُ اسْجُدُوا لِلرَّحْمَٰنِ قَالُوا وَمَا الرَّحْمَٰنُ أَنَسْجُدُ لِمَا تَأْمُرُنَا وَزَادَهُمْ نُفُورًا ۩
Waitha qeela lahumu osjudoo lilrrahmani qaloo wama alrrahmanu anasjudu lima tamuruna wazadahum nufooran (60)
( وإذا قيل لهم اسجدوا للرحمن قالوا وما الرحمن ) ما نعرف الرحمن إلا رحمن اليمامة ، يعنون مسيلمة الكذاب ، كانوا يسمونه رحمن اليمامة . ) ( أنسجد لما تأمرنا ) قرأ حمزة والكسائي " يأمرنا " بالياء ، أي : لما يأمرنا محمد بالسجود له ، وقرأ الآخرون بالتاء ، أي : لما تأمرنا أنت يا محمد ، ) ( وزادهم ) يعني : زادهم قول القائل لهم : " اسجدوا للرحمن " ( نفورا ) عن الدين والإيمان .
When it is said to the disbelievers: Prostrate to the Merciful, they say: We will not prostrate to the Merciful. What is the Merciful? We do not know or acknowledge Him. Should we prostrate to what you tell us when we do not know Him?! His instruction to them to prostrate to Him only puts them further away from having faith in Allah.
