وَقَالَ الَّذِينَ أُوتُوا الْعِلْمَ وَيْلَكُمْ ثَوَابُ اللَّهِ خَيْرٌ لِمَنْ آمَنَ وَعَمِلَ صَالِحًا وَلَا يُلَقَّاهَا إِلَّا الصَّابِرُونَ
Waqala allatheena ootoo alAAilma waylakum thawabu Allahi khayrun liman amana waAAamila salihan wala yulaqqaha illa alssabiroona (80)
( وقال الذين أوتوا العلم ) قال ابن عباس - رضي الله عنهما - : يعني الأحبار من بني إسرائيل . وقال مقاتل : أوتوا العلم بما وعد الله في الآخرة ، قالوا للذين تمنوا مثل ما أوتي قارون في الدنيا : ( ويلكم ثواب الله خير ) يعني ما عند الله من الثواب والجزاء خير ) ( لمن آمن ) وصدق بتوحيد الله ) ( وعمل صالحا ) مما أوتي قارون في الدنيا ( ولا يلقاها إلا الصابرون ) قال مقاتل : لا يؤتاها ، يعني الأعمال الصالحة . وقال الكلبي لا يعطاها في الآخرة . وقيل : لا يؤتى هذه الكلمة وهي قوله : " ويلكم ثواب الله خير " إلا الصابرون على طاعة الله وعن زينة الدنيا .
Those given knowledge said when they saw Qarun in his adornment and when they heard what his companions wished for: “Woe unto you! The reward of Allah in the afterlife and the pleasure He has prepared for those who bring faith and do good deeds is better than the worldly splendour given to Qarun”. And none are granted the ability to say this statement and act accordingly except the patient who persevere in preferring the reward with Allah over the temporary enjoyment of this world.
