مَا كَانَ إِبْرَاهِيمُ يَهُودِيًّا وَلَا نَصْرَانِيًّا وَلَٰكِنْ كَانَ حَنِيفًا مُسْلِمًا وَمَا كَانَ مِنَ الْمُشْرِكِينَ
Ma kana ibraheemu yahoodiyyan wala nasraniyyan walakin kana haneefan musliman wama kana mina almushrikeena (67)
ثم برأ الله تعالى إبراهيم مما قالوا : فقال:
( ما كان إبراهيم يهوديا ولا نصرانيا ولكن كان حنيفا مسلما وما كان من المشركين ) والحنيف : المائل عن الأديان كلها إلى الدين المستقيم ، وقيل : الحنيف : الذي يوحد ويحج ويضحي ويختن ويستقبل الكعبة . وهو أسهل الأديان وأحبها إلى الله عز وجل
Abraham was not a Jew or Christian in belief, but he was opposed to all false religions and obedient to Allah alone. He was also not one of those who ascribe partners to Allah – contrary to the idolaters of the Arabs, who claim to follow his belief.
