أَوْ يُوبِقْهُنَّ بِمَا كَسَبُوا وَيَعْفُ عَنْ كَثِيرٍ
Aw yoobiqhunna bima kasaboo wayaAAfu AAan katheerin (34)
( أو يوبقهن ) يهلكهن ويغرقهن ، ( بما كسبوا ) أي : بما كسبت ركبانها من الذنوب . ( ويعف عن كثير ) من ذنوبهم [ فلا يعاقب عليها ] .
Or if Allah, (may He be glorified), willed to destroy those ships by sending gale-force winds, He would have done so on account of the sins that people earn. He overlooks many of the sins of His servants and does not punish them for those.
