وَقَالُوا لَوْ شَاءَ الرَّحْمَٰنُ مَا عَبَدْنَاهُمْ ۗ مَا لَهُمْ بِذَٰلِكَ مِنْ عِلْمٍ ۖ إِنْ هُمْ إِلَّا يَخْرُصُونَ
Waqaloo law shaa alrrahmanu ma AAabadnahum ma lahum bithalika min AAilmin in hum illa yakhrusoona (20)
( وقالوا لو شاء الرحمن ما عبدناهم ) يعني الملائكة . قاله قتادة ومقاتل والكلبي ، قال مجاهد : يعني الأوثان ، وإنما لم يعجل عقوبتنا على عبادتنا إياها لرضاه منا بعبادتها . قال الله تعالى : ( ما لهم بذلك من علم ) فيما يقولون ( إن هم إلا يخرصون ) ما هم إلا كاذبون في قولهم : إن الله تعالى رضي منا بعبادتها ، وقيل : إن هم إلا يخرصون في قولهم : إن الملائكة إناث وإنهم بنات الله .
And they say, using divine decree as evidence, “If Allah willed that we did not worship the angels, we would not have worshipped them. So because He willed for it to happen, it proves He was happy with it.” They make this statement out of ignorance; they are only lying.
