بَلْ قَالُوا إِنَّا وَجَدْنَا آبَاءَنَا عَلَىٰ أُمَّةٍ وَإِنَّا عَلَىٰ آثَارِهِمْ مُهْتَدُونَ
Bal qaloo inna wajadna abaana AAala ommatin wainna AAala atharihim muhtadoona (22)
( بل قالوا إنا وجدنا آباءنا على أمة ) على دين وملة . قال مجاهد : على إمام ( وإنا على آثارهم مهتدون ) جعلوا أنفسهم باتباع آبائهم مهتدين .
No! That has not happened. Rather, they are using their blind following as evidence, saying, “Indeed, we found our forefathers before us upon a belief and they used to worship idols. We are continuing in their footsteps in worshipping them.”
