وَلَقَدْ أَهْلَكْنَا مَا حَوْلَكُمْ مِنَ الْقُرَىٰ وَصَرَّفْنَا الْآيَاتِ لَعَلَّهُمْ يَرْجِعُونَ
Walaqad ahlakna ma hawlakum mina alqura wasarrafna alayati laAAallahum yarjiAAoona (27)
( ولقد أهلكنا ما حولكم ) يا أهل مكة ( من القرى ) كحجر ثمود وأرض سدوم ونحوهما ( وصرفنا الآيات ) الحجج والبينات ( لعلهم يرجعون ) عن كفرهم فلم يرجعوا ، فأهلكناهم ، يخوف مشركي مكة .
And I destroyed the cities around you, O people of Makkah; I destroyed Ad, Thamud, the people of Lot and the people of Madyan, and I gave them different proof and evidence, in the hope they will return from their disbelief.
