إِنْ يَسْأَلْكُمُوهَا فَيُحْفِكُمْ تَبْخَلُوا وَيُخْرِجْ أَضْغَانَكُمْ
In yasalkumooha fayuhfikum tabkhaloo wayukhrij adghanakum (37)
( إن يسألكموها فيحفكم ) أي يجهدكم ويلحف عليكم بمسألة جميعها ، يقال : أحفى فلان فلانا إذا جهده ، وألحف عليه بالمسألة .
( تبخلوا ) بها فلا تعطوها .
( ويخرج أضغانكم ) بغضكم وعداوتكم ، قال قتادة : علم الله أن في مسألة الأموال خروج الأضغان .
If He had to ask you for all of your wealth and insist in this request from you, you will become miserly with it, and He will bring out the greed and miserliness in your hearts. Thus that fact He is not asking it from you is out of kindness.
