وَلَوْ كَانُوا يُؤْمِنُونَ بِاللَّهِ وَالنَّبِيِّ وَمَا أُنْزِلَ إِلَيْهِ مَا اتَّخَذُوهُمْ أَوْلِيَاءَ وَلَٰكِنَّ كَثِيرًا مِنْهُمْ فَاسِقُونَ
Walaw kanoo yuminoona biAllahi waalnnabiyyi wama onzila ilayhi ma ittakhathoohum awliyaa walakinna katheeran minhum fasiqoona (81)
( ولو كانوا يؤمنون بالله والنبي ) محمد صلى الله عليه وسلم ، ( وما أنزل إليه ) يعني القرآن ، ( ما اتخذوهم ) يعني الكفار ، ( أولياء ولكن كثيرا منهم فاسقون ) أي خارجون عن أمر الله سبحانه وتعالى .
If these Jews had true faith in Allah and His Prophet, they would not have taken the idolaters as their allies instead of the believers, because they were prohibited from taking disbelievers as friends. But most of these Jews do not obey Allah nor do they side with Him and the believers.
