فَلَمَّا رَأَى الشَّمْسَ بَازِغَةً قَالَ هَٰذَا رَبِّي هَٰذَا أَكْبَرُ ۖ فَلَمَّا أَفَلَتْ قَالَ يَا قَوْمِ إِنِّي بَرِيءٌ مِمَّا تُشْرِكُونَ
Falamma raa alshshamsa bazighatan qala hatha rabbee hatha akbaru falamma afalat qala ya qawmi innee bareeon mimma tushrikoona (78)
( فلما رأى الشمس بازغة قال هذا ربي هذا أكبر ) أي : أكبر من الكوكب والقمر ، ولم يقل هذه مع أن الشمس مؤنثة لأنه أراد هذا الطالع ، أو رده إلى المعنى ، وهو الضياء والنور ، لأنه رآه أضوأ من النجوم والقمر ، ( فلما أفلت ) غربت ، ( قال يا قوم إني بريء مما تشركون ) .
When he saw the sun rising, he said to his people, ‘This thing that is rising is my Lord. It is bigger than the star and the moon’, further continuing his plan of argument and proof against them. When it disappeared, he said, ‘O my people, I am free of what you associate as partners with Allah’.
