وَإِذَا قِيلَ لَهُمْ تَعَالَوْا يَسْتَغْفِرْ لَكُمْ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ لَوَّوْا رُءُوسَهُمْ وَرَأَيْتَهُمْ يَصُدُّونَ وَهُمْ مُسْتَكْبِرُونَ
Waitha qeela lahum taAAalaw yastaghfir lakum rasoolu Allahi lawwaw ruoosahum waraaytahum yasuddoona wahum mustakbiroona (5)
( وإذا قيل لهم تعالوا يستغفر لكم رسول الله لووا رءوسهم ) أي عطفوا وأعرضوا بوجوههم رغبة عن الاستغفار . قرأ نافع ويعقوب " لووا " بالتخفيف ، وقرأ الآخرون بالتشديد ، لأنهم فعلوه مرة بعد مرة .
( ورأيتهم يصدون ) يعرضون عما دعوا إليه ، ( وهم مستكبرون ) متكبرون عن استغفار رسول الله - صلى الله عليه وسلم - لهم .
When these hypocrites are told: Come to the Messenger of Allah and apologize for what you’ve done, he will seek from Allah forgiveness for your sins, they turn their heads in mockery and jest, and you see them turning away from what they are instructed to do, whilst they are too proud to accept the truth and submit to it.
