وَإِذْ تَأَذَّنَ رَبُّكَ لَيَبْعَثَنَّ عَلَيْهِمْ إِلَىٰ يَوْمِ الْقِيَامَةِ مَنْ يَسُومُهُمْ سُوءَ الْعَذَابِ ۗ إِنَّ رَبَّكَ لَسَرِيعُ الْعِقَابِ ۖ وَإِنَّهُ لَغَفُورٌ رَحِيمٌ
Waith taaththana rabbuka layabAAathanna AAalayhim ila yawmi alqiyamati man yasoomuhum sooa alAAathabi inna rabbaka lasareeAAu alAAiqabi wainnahu laghafoorun raheemun (167)
( وإذ تأذن ربك ) أي : آذن وأعلم ربك ، يقال : تأذن وآذن ، مثل : توعد وأوعد . وقال ابن عباس : تأذن ربك قال ربك . وقال مجاهد : أمر ربك . وقال عطاء : حكم ربك . ( ليبعثن عليهم إلى يوم القيامة ) أي : على اليهود ، ( من يسومهم سوء العذاب ) بعث الله عليهم محمدا - صلى الله عليه وسلم - وأمته يقاتلونهم حتى يسلموا أو يعطوا الجزية ، ( إن ربك لسريع العقاب وإنه لغفور رحيم )
Mention, O Messenger, when Allah declared in clear terms that He would put over the Jews those who would humiliate and humble them in this life until the Day of Judgement. Your Lord is quick with the punishment for those who go against Him, sometimes punishing them in the worldly life. Yet He is Forgiving to whoever repents to Him from among His servants, and is Merciful to them.
