قَالَ الْمَلَأُ الَّذِينَ اسْتَكْبَرُوا مِنْ قَوْمِهِ لِلَّذِينَ اسْتُضْعِفُوا لِمَنْ آمَنَ مِنْهُمْ أَتَعْلَمُونَ أَنَّ صَالِحًا مُرْسَلٌ مِنْ رَبِّهِ ۚ قَالُوا إِنَّا بِمَا أُرْسِلَ بِهِ مُؤْمِنُونَ
Qala almalao allatheena istakbaroo min qawmihi lillatheena istudAAifoo liman amana minhum ataAAlamoona anna salihan mursalun min rabbihi qaloo inna bima orsila bihi muminoona (75)
( قال الملأ ) قرأ ابن عامر : ( وقال الملأ ) بالواو ( الذين استكبروا من قومه ) يعني الأشراف والقادة الذين تعظموا عن الإيمان بصالح ، ( للذين استضعفوا ) يعني الأتباع ، ( لمن آمن منهم ) يعني : قال الكفار للمؤمنين ، ( أتعلمون أن صالحا مرسل من ربه ) إليكم ، ( قالوا إنا بما أرسل به مؤمنون ) .
The leaders and important people, who looked down in pride at the people who had faith, those they considered to be weak, asked them: 'Do you really know that Ṣāliḥ is a messenger from Allah?' The believers replied: 'We have sure faith in him, and we act in agreement with what he has brought us.'
