"تظن أن يفعل بها فاقرة"، تستيقن أن يعمل بها عظيمة من العذاب، والفاقرة: الداهية العظيمة، والأمر الشديد يكسر فقار الظهر. قال سعيد بن المسيب: قاصمة الظهر. قال ابن زيد: هي دخول النار. وقال الكلبي: هي أن تحجب عن رؤية الرب عز وجل.
