ثُمَّ أَنْزَلَ اللَّهُ سَكِينَتَهُ عَلَىٰ رَسُولِهِ وَعَلَى الْمُؤْمِنِينَ وَأَنْزَلَ جُنُودًا لَمْ تَرَوْهَا وَعَذَّبَ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا ۚ وَذَٰلِكَ جَزَاءُ الْكَافِرِينَ
Thumma anzala Allahu sakeenatahu AAala rasoolihi waAAala almumineena waanzala junoodan lam tarawha waAAaththaba allatheena kafaroo wathalika jazao alkafireena (26)
( ثم أنزل الله ) بعد الهزيمة ، ( سكينته ) يعني : الأمنة والطمأنينة ، وهي فعيلة من السكون ( على رسوله وعلى المؤمنين وأنزل جنودا لم تروها ) يعني : الملائكة . قيل : لا للقتال ، ولكن لتجبين الكفار وتشجيع المسلمين ، لأنه يروى : أن الملائكة لم يقاتلوا إلا يوم بدر ، ( وعذب الذين كفروا ) بالقتل والأسر وسبي العيال وسلب الأموال ، ( وذلك جزاء الكافرين ) .
Then, after they ran away from their enemy, Allah sent down calm upon His Messenger and the believers, so that they became patient in fighting; and He sent angels they could not see, and punished the disbelievers with death, capture and seizure of their wealth, women and children. These disbelievers were repaid in this way for their rejection of the Messenger.
