51 Adh-Dhariyat(الذاريات), Ayah 45

فَمَا اسْتَطَاعُوا مِنْ قِيَامٍ وَمَا كَانُوا مُنْتَصِرِينَ

Fama istataAAoo min qiyamin wama kanoo muntasireena ⁽⁴⁵⁾

Tafsir

( فما استطاعوا من قيام ) فما قاموا بعد نزول العذاب بهم ولا قدروا على نهوض . قال قتادة : لم ينهضوا من تلك الصرعة ( وما كانوا منتصرين ) ممتنعين منا . قال قتادة : ما كانت عندهم قوة يمتنعون بها من الله .

So they were unable to repel the punishment that befell them nor did they have any power to defend themselves with.
