Surah Al-Mutaffifin (The Defrauders) سُورَة المطففين

Surah Al-Mutaffifin is the 83rd chapter of the Quran, consisting of 36 verses. This Surah addresses the issue of defrauding in business, particularly in relation to measuring and weighing. Surah Al-Mutaffifin (Defrauding) — سُورَةُ المطففين

Also known as: Wayl li al-Muṭaffifīn (Woe to Those Who Give Less), al-Taṭfīf (Shortchanging)

بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ ۞

i

In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful.

الَّذِينَ إِذَا اكْتَالُوا عَلَى النَّاسِ يَسْتَوْفُونَ ٢ i

83:2

Who, when they take a measure from people, take in full. (2)

وَإِذَا كَالُوهُمْ أَوْ وَزَنُوهُمْ يُخْسِرُونَ ٣ i

83:3

But if they give by measure or by weight to them, they cause loss. (3)

أَلَا يَظُنُّ أُولَٰئِكَ أَنَّهُمْ مَبْعُوثُونَ ٤ i

83:4

Do they not think that they will be resurrected (4)

يَوْمَ يَقُومُ النَّاسُ لِرَبِّ الْعَالَمِينَ ٦ i

83:6

The Day when mankind will stand before the Lord of the worlds? (6)

كَلَّا إِنَّ كِتَابَ الْفُجَّارِ لَفِي سِجِّينٍ ٧ i

83:7

No! Indeed, the record of the wicked is in sijjeen. (7)

وَمَا يُكَذِّبُ بِهِ إِلَّا كُلُّ مُعْتَدٍ أَثِيمٍ ١٢ i

83:12

And none deny it except every sinful transgressor. (12)

إِذَا تُتْلَىٰ عَلَيْهِ آيَاتُنَا قَالَ أَسَاطِيرُ الْأَوَّلِينَ ١٣ i

83:13

When Our verses are recited to him, he says, "Legends of the former peoples." (13)

كَلَّا ۖ بَلْ ۜ رَانَ عَلَىٰ قُلُوبِهِمْ مَا كَانُوا يَكْسِبُونَ ١٤ i

83:14

No! Rather, the stain has covered their hearts of that which they were earning. (14)

كَلَّا إِنَّهُمْ عَنْ رَبِّهِمْ يَوْمَئِذٍ لَمَحْجُوبُونَ ١٥ i

83:15

No! Indeed, from their Lord, that Day, they will be partitioned. (15)

ثُمَّ إِنَّهُمْ لَصَالُو الْجَحِيمِ ١٦ i

83:16

Then indeed, they will [enter and] burn in Hellfire. (16)

ثُمَّ يُقَالُ هَٰذَا الَّذِي كُنْتُمْ بِهِ تُكَذِّبُونَ ١٧ i

83:17

Then it will be said [to them], "This is what you used to deny." (17)

كَلَّا إِنَّ كِتَابَ الْأَبْرَارِ لَفِي عِلِّيِّينَ ١٨ i

83:18

No! Indeed, the record of the righteous is in 'illiyyun. (18)

تَعْرِفُ فِي وُجُوهِهِمْ نَضْرَةَ النَّعِيمِ ٢٤ i

83:24

You will recognize in their faces the radiance of pleasure. (24)

يُسْقَوْنَ مِنْ رَحِيقٍ مَخْتُومٍ ٢٥ i

83:25

They will be given to drink [pure] wine [which was] sealed. (25)

خِتَامُهُ مِسْكٌ ۚ وَفِي ذَٰلِكَ فَلْيَتَنَافَسِ الْمُتَنَافِسُونَ ٢٦ i

83:26

The last of it is musk. So for this let the competitors compete. (26)

عَيْنًا يَشْرَبُ بِهَا الْمُقَرَّبُونَ ٢٨ i

83:28

A spring from which those near [to Allah] drink. (28)

إِنَّ الَّذِينَ أَجْرَمُوا كَانُوا مِنَ الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا يَضْحَكُونَ ٢٩ i

83:29

Indeed, those who committed crimes used to laugh at those who believed. (29)

وَإِذَا مَرُّوا بِهِمْ يَتَغَامَزُونَ ٣٠ i

83:30

And when they passed by them, they would exchange derisive glances. (30)

وَإِذَا انْقَلَبُوا إِلَىٰ أَهْلِهِمُ انْقَلَبُوا فَكِهِينَ ٣١ i

83:31

And when they returned to their people, they would return jesting. (31)

وَإِذَا رَأَوْهُمْ قَالُوا إِنَّ هَٰؤُلَاءِ لَضَالُّونَ ٣٢ i

83:32

And when they saw them, they would say, "Indeed, those are truly lost." (32)

وَمَا أُرْسِلُوا عَلَيْهِمْ حَافِظِينَ ٣٣ i

83:33

But they had not been sent as guardians over them. (33)

فَالْيَوْمَ الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا مِنَ الْكُفَّارِ يَضْحَكُونَ ٣٤ i

83:34

So Today those who believed are laughing at the disbelievers, (34)

هَلْ ثُوِّبَ الْكُفَّارُ مَا كَانُوا يَفْعَلُونَ ٣٦ i

83:36

Have the disbelievers [not] been rewarded [this Day] for what they used to do? (36)
