Surah Al-Fajr (The Dawn) سُورَة الفجر

Surah Al-Fajr is the 89th chapter of the Quran, consisting of 30 verses. It reflects on the themes of divine justice, warning of the consequences of arrogance and the neglect of God's commands, and encourages reflection on the power of Allah. Below are the verses of this Surah.

Surah Al-Fajr (The Dawn) — سُورَةُ الفجر

بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ ۞

i

In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful.

هَلْ فِي ذَٰلِكَ قَسَمٌ لِذِي حِجْرٍ ٥ i

89:5

Is there [not] in [all] that an oath [sufficient] for one of perception? (5)

أَلَمْ تَرَ كَيْفَ فَعَلَ رَبُّكَ بِعَادٍ ٦ i

89:6

Have you not considered how your Lord dealt with 'Aad - (6)

الَّتِي لَمْ يُخْلَقْ مِثْلُهَا فِي الْبِلَادِ ٨ i

89:8

The likes of whom had never been created in the land? (8)

وَثَمُودَ الَّذِينَ جَابُوا الصَّخْرَ بِالْوَادِ ٩ i

89:9

And [with] Thamud, who carved out the rocks in the valley? (9)

فَصَبَّ عَلَيْهِمْ رَبُّكَ سَوْطَ عَذَابٍ ١٣ i

89:13

So your Lord poured upon them a scourge of punishment. (13)

فَأَمَّا الْإِنْسَانُ إِذَا مَا ابْتَلَاهُ رَبُّهُ فَأَكْرَمَهُ وَنَعَّمَهُ فَيَقُولُ رَبِّي أَكْرَمَنِ ١٥ i

89:15

And as for man, when his Lord tries him and [thus] is generous to him and favors him, he says, "My Lord has honored me." (15)

وَأَمَّا إِذَا مَا ابْتَلَاهُ فَقَدَرَ عَلَيْهِ رِزْقَهُ فَيَقُولُ رَبِّي أَهَانَنِ ١٦ i

89:16

But when He tries him and restricts his provision, he says, "My Lord has humiliated me." (16)

كَلَّا ۖ بَلْ لَا تُكْرِمُونَ الْيَتِيمَ ١٧ i

89:17

No! But you do not honor the orphan (17)

وَلَا تَحَاضُّونَ عَلَىٰ طَعَامِ الْمِسْكِينِ ١٨ i

89:18

And you do not encourage one another to feed the poor. (18)

وَتَأْكُلُونَ التُّرَاثَ أَكْلًا لَمًّا ١٩ i

89:19

And you consume inheritance, devouring [it] altogether, (19)

كَلَّا إِذَا دُكَّتِ الْأَرْضُ دَكًّا دَكًّا ٢١ i

89:21

No! When the earth has been leveled - pounded and crushed - (21)

وَجَاءَ رَبُّكَ وَالْمَلَكُ صَفًّا صَفًّا ٢٢ i

89:22

And your Lord has come and the angels, rank upon rank, (22)

وَجِيءَ يَوْمَئِذٍ بِجَهَنَّمَ ۚ يَوْمَئِذٍ يَتَذَكَّرُ الْإِنْسَانُ وَأَنَّىٰ لَهُ الذِّكْرَىٰ ٢٣ i

89:23

And brought [within view], that Day, is Hell - that Day, man will remember, but what good to him will be the remembrance? (23)

يَقُولُ يَا لَيْتَنِي قَدَّمْتُ لِحَيَاتِي ٢٤ i

89:24

He will say, "Oh, I wish I had sent ahead [some good] for my life." (24)

فَيَوْمَئِذٍ لَا يُعَذِّبُ عَذَابَهُ أَحَدٌ ٢٥ i

89:25

So on that Day, none will punish [as severely] as His punishment, (25)

وَلَا يُوثِقُ وَثَاقَهُ أَحَدٌ ٢٦ i

89:26

And none will bind [as severely] as His binding [of the evildoers]. (26)

يَا أَيَّتُهَا النَّفْسُ الْمُطْمَئِنَّةُ ٢٧ i

89:27

[To the righteous it will be said], "O reassured soul, (27)

ارْجِعِي إِلَىٰ رَبِّكِ رَاضِيَةً مَرْضِيَّةً ٢٨ i

89:28

Return to your Lord, well-pleased and pleasing [to Him], (28)
