Surah Ash-Shams (The Sun) — سُورَةُ الشمس
بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ
iIn the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful.
وَالشَّمْسِ وَضُحَاهَا i
By the sun and its brightness (1)
وَالْقَمَرِ إِذَا تَلَاهَا i
And [by] the moon when it follows it (2)
وَالنَّهَارِ إِذَا جَلَّاهَا i
And [by] the day when it displays it (3)
وَاللَّيْلِ إِذَا يَغْشَاهَا i
And [by] the night when it covers it (4)
وَالسَّمَاءِ وَمَا بَنَاهَا i
And [by] the sky and He who constructed it (5)
وَالْأَرْضِ وَمَا طَحَاهَا i
And [by] the earth and He who spread it (6)
وَنَفْسٍ وَمَا سَوَّاهَا i
And [by] the soul and He who proportioned it (7)
فَأَلْهَمَهَا فُجُورَهَا وَتَقْوَاهَا i
And inspired it [with discernment of] its wickedness and its righteousness, (8)
قَدْ أَفْلَحَ مَنْ زَكَّاهَا i
He has succeeded who purifies it, (9)
كَذَّبَتْ ثَمُودُ بِطَغْوَاهَا i
Thamud denied [their prophet] by reason of their transgression, (11)
فَقَالَ لَهُمْ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ نَاقَةَ اللَّهِ وَسُقْيَاهَا i
And the messenger of Allah [Salih] said to them, "[Do not harm] the she-camel of Allah or [prevent her from] her drink." (13)
فَكَذَّبُوهُ فَعَقَرُوهَا فَدَمْدَمَ عَلَيْهِمْ رَبُّهُمْ بِذَنْبِهِمْ فَسَوَّاهَا i
But they denied him and hamstrung her. So their Lord brought down upon them destruction for their sin and made it equal [upon all of them]. (14)
