Surah An-Nazi'at (The Soul-Snatchers) سُورَة النازعات

Surah An-Nazi'at is the 79th chapter of the Quran, consisting of 46 verses. It discusses the fate of the disbelievers and the Day of Judgment. Below are the verses of this Surah.

Surah An-Nazi'at (Those who drag forth) — سُورَةُ النازعات

Also known as: al-Sāhirah (The Surface), al-Ṭāmmah (The Great Calamity)

بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

وَالنَّازِعَاتِ غَرْقًا i

79:1

By the (angels) who tear out (the souls of the wicked) with violence; ⁽¹⁾

وَالنَّاشِطَاتِ نَشْطًا i

79:2

By those who gently draw out (the souls of the blessed); ⁽²⁾

وَالسَّابِحَاتِ سَبْحًا i

79:3

And by those who glide along (on errands of mercy), ⁽³⁾

فَالسَّابِقَاتِ سَبْقًا i

79:4

Then press forward as in a race, ⁽⁴⁾

فَالْمُدَبِّرَاتِ أَمْرًا i

79:5

Then arrange to do (the Commands of their Lord), ⁽⁵⁾

يَوْمَ تَرْجُفُ الرَّاجِفَةُ i

79:6

One Day everything that can be in commotion will be in violent commotion, ⁽⁶⁾

تَتْبَعُهَا الرَّادِفَةُ i

79:7

Followed by oft-repeated (commotions): ⁽⁷⁾

قُلُوبٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ وَاجِفَةٌ i

79:8

Hearts that Day will be in agitation; ⁽⁸⁾

أَبْصَارُهَا خَاشِعَةٌ i

79:9

Cast down will be (their owners') eyes. ⁽⁹⁾

يَقُولُونَ أَإِنَّا لَمَرْدُودُونَ فِي الْحَافِرَةِ i

79:10

They say (now): "What! shall we indeed be returned to (our) former state? ⁽¹⁰⁾

أَإِذَا كُنَّا عِظَامًا نَخِرَةً i

79:11

"What! - when we shall have become rotten bones?" ⁽¹¹⁾

قَالُوا تِلْكَ إِذًا كَرَّةٌ خَاسِرَةٌ i

79:12

They say: "It would, in that case, be a return with loss!" ⁽¹²⁾

فَإِنَّمَا هِيَ زَجْرَةٌ وَاحِدَةٌ i

79:13

But verily, it will be but a single (Compelling) Cry, ⁽¹³⁾

فَإِذَا هُمْ بِالسَّاهِرَةِ i

79:14

When, behold, they will be in the (full) awakening (to Judgment). ⁽¹⁴⁾

هَلْ أَتَاكَ حَدِيثُ مُوسَىٰ i

79:15

Has the story of Moses reached thee? ⁽¹⁵⁾

إِذْ نَادَاهُ رَبُّهُ بِالْوَادِ الْمُقَدَّسِ طُوًى i

79:16

Behold, thy Lord did call to him in the sacred valley of Tuwa:- ⁽¹⁶⁾

اذْهَبْ إِلَىٰ فِرْعَوْنَ إِنَّهُ طَغَىٰ i

79:17

"Go thou to Pharaoh for he has indeed transgressed all bounds: ⁽¹⁷⁾

فَقُلْ هَلْ لَكَ إِلَىٰ أَنْ تَزَكَّىٰ i

79:18

"And say to him, 'Wouldst thou that thou shouldst be purified (from sin)?- ⁽¹⁸⁾

وَأَهْدِيَكَ إِلَىٰ رَبِّكَ فَتَخْشَىٰ i

79:19

"'And that I guide thee to thy Lord, so thou shouldst fear Him?'" ⁽¹⁹⁾

فَأَرَاهُ الْآيَةَ الْكُبْرَىٰ i

79:20

Then did (Moses) show him the Great Sign. ⁽²⁰⁾

فَكَذَّبَ وَعَصَىٰ i

79:21

But (Pharaoh) rejected it and disobeyed (guidance); ⁽²¹⁾

ثُمَّ أَدْبَرَ يَسْعَىٰ i

79:22

Further, he turned his back, striving hard (against Allah). ⁽²²⁾

فَحَشَرَ فَنَادَىٰ i

79:23

Then he collected (his men) and made a proclamation, ⁽²³⁾

فَقَالَ أَنَا رَبُّكُمُ الْأَعْلَىٰ i

79:24

Saying, "I am your Lord, Most High". ⁽²⁴⁾

فَأَخَذَهُ اللَّهُ نَكَالَ الْآخِرَةِ وَالْأُولَىٰ i

79:25

But Allah did punish him, (and made an) example of him, - in the Hereafter, as in this life. ⁽²⁵⁾

إِنَّ فِي ذَٰلِكَ لَعِبْرَةً لِمَنْ يَخْشَىٰ i

79:26

Verily in this is an instructive warning for whosoever feareth (Allah). ⁽²⁶⁾

أَأَنْتُمْ أَشَدُّ خَلْقًا أَمِ السَّمَاءُ ۚ بَنَاهَا i

79:27

What! Are ye the more difficult to create or the heaven (above)? (Allah) hath constructed it: ⁽²⁷⁾

رَفَعَ سَمْكَهَا فَسَوَّاهَا i

79:28

On high hath He raised its canopy, and He hath given it order and perfection. ⁽²⁸⁾

وَأَغْطَشَ لَيْلَهَا وَأَخْرَجَ ضُحَاهَا i

79:29

Its night doth He endow with darkness, and its splendour doth He bring out (with light). ⁽²⁹⁾

وَالْأَرْضَ بَعْدَ ذَٰلِكَ دَحَاهَا i

79:30

And the earth, moreover, hath He extended (to a wide expanse); ⁽³⁰⁾

أَخْرَجَ مِنْهَا مَاءَهَا وَمَرْعَاهَا i

79:31

He draweth out therefrom its moisture and its pasture; ⁽³¹⁾

وَالْجِبَالَ أَرْسَاهَا i

79:32

And the mountains hath He firmly fixed;- ⁽³²⁾

مَتَاعًا لَكُمْ وَلِأَنْعَامِكُمْ i

79:33

For use and convenience to you and your cattle. ⁽³³⁾

فَإِذَا جَاءَتِ الطَّامَّةُ الْكُبْرَىٰ i

79:34

Therefore, when there comes the great, overwhelming (Event),- ⁽³⁴⁾

يَوْمَ يَتَذَكَّرُ الْإِنْسَانُ مَا سَعَىٰ i

79:35

The Day when man shall remember (all) that he strove for, ⁽³⁵⁾

وَبُرِّزَتِ الْجَحِيمُ لِمَنْ يَرَىٰ i

79:36

And Hell-Fire shall be placed in full view for (all) to see,- ⁽³⁶⁾

فَأَمَّا مَنْ طَغَىٰ i

79:37

Then, for such as had transgressed all bounds, ⁽³⁷⁾

وَآثَرَ الْحَيَاةَ الدُّنْيَا i

79:38

And had preferred the life of this world, ⁽³⁸⁾

فَإِنَّ الْجَحِيمَ هِيَ الْمَأْوَىٰ i

79:39

The Abode will be Hell-Fire; ⁽³⁹⁾

وَأَمَّا مَنْ خَافَ مَقَامَ رَبِّهِ وَنَهَى النَّفْسَ عَنِ الْهَوَىٰ i

79:40

And for such as had entertained the fear of standing before their Lord's (tribunal) and had restrained (their) soul from lower desires, ⁽⁴⁰⁾

فَإِنَّ الْجَنَّةَ هِيَ الْمَأْوَىٰ i

79:41

Their abode will be the Garden. ⁽⁴¹⁾

يَسْأَلُونَكَ عَنِ السَّاعَةِ أَيَّانَ مُرْسَاهَا i

79:42

They ask thee about the Hour,-'When will be its appointed time? ⁽⁴²⁾

فِيمَ أَنْتَ مِنْ ذِكْرَاهَا i

79:43

Wherein art thou (concerned) with the declaration thereof? ⁽⁴³⁾

إِلَىٰ رَبِّكَ مُنْتَهَاهَا i

79:44

With thy Lord in the Limit fixed therefor. ⁽⁴⁴⁾

إِنَّمَا أَنْتَ مُنْذِرُ مَنْ يَخْشَاهَا i

79:45

Thou art but a Warner for such as fear it. ⁽⁴⁵⁾

كَأَنَّهُمْ يَوْمَ يَرَوْنَهَا لَمْ يَلْبَثُوا إِلَّا عَشِيَّةً أَوْ ضُحَاهَا i

79:46

The Day they see it, (It will be) as if they had tarried but a single evening, or (at most till) the following morn! ⁽⁴⁶⁾
