Surah Al-Alaq (The Clot) سُورَة العلق

Surah Al-Alaq is the 96th chapter of the Quran, consisting of 19 verses. It discusses the initial revelation to the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and the importance of knowledge. Below are the verses of this Surah.

Translation: Surah Al-'Alaq (The Clot) سُورَة العلق

بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ

i

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

اقْرَأْ بِاسْمِ رَبِّكَ الَّذِي خَلَقَ ١ i

Proclaim! (or read!) in the name of thy Lord and Cherisher, Who created- (1)

خَلَقَ الْإِنْسَانَ مِنْ عَلَقٍ ٢ i

Created man, out of a (mere) clot of congealed blood: (2)

اقْرَأْ وَرَبُّكَ الْأَكْرَمُ ٣ i

Proclaim! And thy Lord is Most Bountiful,- (3)

الَّذِي عَلَّمَ بِالْقَلَمِ ٤ i

He Who taught (the use of) the pen,- (4)

عَلَّمَ الْإِنْسَانَ مَا لَمْ يَعْلَمْ ٥ i

Taught man that which he knew not. (5)

كَلَّا إِنَّ الْإِنْسَانَ لَيَطْغَىٰ ٦ i

Nay, but man doth transgress all bounds, (6)

أَنْ رَآهُ اسْتَغْنَىٰ ٧ i

In that he looketh upon himself as self-sufficient. (7)

إِنَّ إِلَىٰ رَبِّكَ الرُّجْعَىٰ ٨ i

Verily, to thy Lord is the return (of all). (8)

أَرَأَيْتَ الَّذِي يَنْهَىٰ ٩ i

Seest thou one who forbids- (9)

عَبْدًا إِذَا صَلَّىٰ ١٠ i

A votary when he (turns) to pray? (10)

أَرَأَيْتَ إِنْ كَانَ عَلَى الْهُدَىٰ ١١ i

Seest thou if he is on (the road of) Guidance?- (11)

أَوْ أَمَرَ بِالتَّقْوَىٰ ١٢ i

Or enjoins Righteousness? (12)

أَرَأَيْتَ إِنْ كَذَّبَ وَتَوَلَّىٰ ١٣ i

Seest thou if he denies (Truth) and turns away? (13)

أَلَمْ يَعْلَمْ بِأَنَّ اللَّهَ يَرَىٰ ١٤ i

Knoweth he not that Allah doth see? (14)

كَلَّا لَئِنْ لَمْ يَنْتَهِ لَنَسْفَعًا بِالنَّاصِيَةِ ١٥ i

Let him beware! If he desist not, We will drag him by the forelock,- (15)

نَاصِيَةٍ كَاذِبَةٍ خَاطِئَةٍ ١٦ i

A lying, sinful forelock! (16)

فَلْيَدْعُ نَادِيَهُ ١٧ i

Then, let him call (for help) to his council (of comrades): (17)

سَنَدْعُ الزَّبَانِيَةَ ١٨ i

We will call on the angels of punishment (to deal with him)! (18)

كَلَّا لَا تُطِعْهُ وَاسْجُدْ وَاقْتَرِبْ ۩ ١٩ i

Nay, heed him not: But bow down in adoration, and bring thyself the closer (to Allah)! (19)
